The Roman Breviary

The Roman Breviary, more commonly referred to as The Liturgy of the Hours or the Divine Office, is a composition of solemn prayers that are prayed throughout the Canonical hours of the day. The Breviary consists of the psalms and hymns, along with readings from Sacred Scripture. While all of the hours are not mandatory, it is still greatly encouraged for one to put every effort that he has in order to give himself to Christ throughout the day.

Ember Days and Exodus 90

Essentially, Ember Days and Exodus 90 are a set of seasonal days that focus on fasting, abstinence, humility, and thanksgiving. As young men, many of us find ourselves habitually distracted at points throughout our lives. We take for granted the gifts that God has given us, and we throw them away for lesser things. We presume the time that we have on this Earth一 a time in which we could choose to grow in virtue. Once the time that God has given us has been thrown away, we often find ourselves having little to no time at all. We begin to find comfort in wasting more time, and we become complacent over the time that we have already wasted. During this season of abstinence, a man should especially focus on getting rid of the distractions in his life in order to detoxify his mind, body, and soul so that he may give thanks to God who created him.

Significance of Badges

The badges, each bearing a cross, symbolize the unity and shared purpose of the brotherhood, even as different colors represent the unique small groups within it. They serve as a physical reminder of the personal crosses each knight bears, yet also of the strength found in walking together with Christ. Worn in times of temptation, the badge is a sign of faith and brotherhood. Each knight receives a personal badge to be blessed by a priest of their choosing, marking their individual commitment to the path they walk together.
